Power ranks Lexus first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is ranked 14th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 49 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is ranked 9th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus third in overall reliability. BMW is ranked fifth.

The LC has 6.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the M4 (21.7 vs. 15.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Lexus LC comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the M4.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LC has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels are standard on the M4. The LC’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels optional on the M4.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LC can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The M4 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the LC is .5 inches wider in the front and 1.2 inches wider in the rear than on the M4.

For better maneuverability, the LC Active Rear Steering’s turning circle is 5.2 feet tighter than the M4’s (34.8 feet vs. 40 feet). The LC’s turning circle is 5.9 feet tighter than the M4 xDrive’s (35.4 feet vs. 41.3 feet).

The LC Convertible uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The M4 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The LC’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The M4 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The LC’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower both of them with the lock engaged. BMW does not offer a locking feature on the M4’s standard power windows.

The LC has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The M4 doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.
