Compare the2025 Lexus TXVS 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9

The TX has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the TX and the Ioniq 9 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 63 more problems per 100 vehicles, Hyundai is ranked 13th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus second in overall reliability. Hyundai is ranked 10th.

The TX has more powerful engines than the Ioniq 9:

The TX 550h+’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 454 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Ioniq 9’s range is only 311 to 335 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 24 minutes for only an 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 9 hours and 40 minutes.

For better stopping power the TX 500h/550h+’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Ioniq 9:

The TX’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ioniq 9 S/SE’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the TX has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Ioniq 9 S/SE. The TX’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels on the Ioniq 9 Limited/Calligraphy.

The TX has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Ioniq 9; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The TX offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Ioniq 9’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For better maneuverability, the TX’s turning circle is 3 feet tighter than the Ioniq 9’s (38 feet vs. 41 feet).

For greater off-road capability the TX 550h+ Luxury has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Ioniq 9 (7.7 vs. 6.9 inches), allowing the TX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The TX 500h F Sport Performance Premium’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the Ioniq 9 (8 vs. 6.9 inches).

The Lexus TX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 to 1100 pounds less than the Hyundai Ioniq 9.

The TX has .2 inches more front legroom, 1.5 inches more third row legroom, 4 inches more third row hip room and 2.4 inches more third row shoulder room than the Ioniq 9.

The TX’s cargo area provides more volume than the Ioniq 9.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the TX. The Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The TX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Ioniq 9’s (5000 vs. 3500 pounds).

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the TX to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Hyundai doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Ioniq 9.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Hyundai. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 70% lower rating, Hyundai is ranked 30th.

The TX’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ioniq 9’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the TX the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the Ioniq 9 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The TX’s standard Smart Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The TX Luxury/F Sport has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the TX Luxury/F Sport has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The TX’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ioniq 9 offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Lexus TX has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Ioniq 9 SEL/Limited/Calligraphy.

The TX has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Ioniq 9 SEL/Limited/Calligraphy.

The Lexus TX has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the Ioniq 9 SEL/Limited/Calligraphy.
